This Prescription Policy outlines how medications are prescribed through Wexford Health Solutions’ telehealth services, including pharmacy selection, prescription transfers, medication monitoring, and controlled substance requirements.
Effective Date: April 16, 2025
Introduction
At Wexford Health Solutions, LLC, we are committed to providing safe, responsible, and high-quality healthcare through our telehealth platform. To ensure timely and appropriate access to prescribed medications, patients are expected to review and comply with the following Prescription Policy.
1. Prescription Issuance
Prescriptions are issued based on the professional medical judgment of a licensed healthcare provider following a telehealth consultation.
Medications will only be prescribed when clinically appropriate and permitted under applicable federal and state laws.
Certain medications may not be appropriate for telehealth prescribing.
If an in-person examination or additional evaluation is medically necessary, patients are responsible for scheduling and completing any required follow-up appointments before a prescription can be issued.
2. Pharmacy Selection
Patient Responsibility
Patients are responsible for selecting a pharmacy that accepts prescriptions issued through telehealth services. This includes both local retail pharmacies and mail-order pharmacies.
Insurance Verification
Patients are also responsible for:
Confirming that their pharmacy participates with their insurance plan, when applicable.
Verifying medication coverage, copays, and any prior authorization requirements directly with their insurance provider.
Wexford Health Solutions is not responsible for insurance coverage decisions or pharmacy network participation.
3. Medication Availability
To avoid delays in treatment, patients should:
Verify that their preferred pharmacy has the prescribed medication in stock before requesting prescription transmission.
Confirm that the pharmacy can dispense the medication exactly as prescribed.
Medication availability varies by pharmacy and cannot be guaranteed by Wexford Health Solutions.
4. Prescription Transfers
If you wish to move your prescription to another pharmacy, you are responsible for initiating the transfer directly with the receiving pharmacy.
Before requesting a transfer, patients should confirm that the new pharmacy:
Accepts telehealth-issued prescriptions.
Is able to fill the medication as prescribed.
Can complete the transfer in accordance with applicable pharmacy regulations.
5. Medication Monitoring
Patients are responsible for actively managing their treatment by:
Monitoring their medication supply.
Scheduling follow-up appointments before medications run out.
Following all treatment recommendations provided by their healthcare provider.
Failure to schedule appropriate follow-up care may result in interruptions to prescription refills or ongoing treatment.
6. Controlled Substance Policy
Certain medications, including controlled substances, are subject to additional legal and clinical requirements.
Depending on the medication and applicable regulations, Wexford Health Solutions may require:
Additional follow-up appointments.
Identity verification.
Prescription monitoring program review.
Laboratory testing or drug screening.
Additional medical documentation.
Compliance with telehealth prescribing regulations.
In-person evaluation when clinically appropriate or legally required.
Controlled substances will only be prescribed when medically appropriate and in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws.
Wexford Health Solutions reserves the right to decline, modify, discontinue, or delay prescribing controlled medications when necessary to protect patient safety or comply with regulatory requirements.
